When building a new housing system for slaughter pigs, an important prerequisite is how many animals you can have in your production and that the production is economically viable. Wider housing system and better indoor climate

With a width up to 60 meters, Intellifarm is wider than traditional housing systems. This typically results in a smaller construction area and a more compact building with a barn design which gives you a good overview of the pigs.

The housing system is well isolated and all pens are equipped with automatic canopies to ensure good climate conditions for the pigs. Intellifarm is equipped with light valves by the facade and on the roof of the building, which results in a large natural inflow of light.

The housing system is equipped with heat recovery and floor heating hoses in the solid floor. This provides optimal comfort for the pigs and recycling of the pigs’ own heat production.

Hybrid ventilation

The core in Intellifarm is the ventilation principle hybrid ventilation, where natural ventilation is combined with floor suction. The natural ventilation results in large savings on energy and the floor suction ensures a dust free housing environment with less ammonia and smell.

The savings on energy will result in a cheaper production and the improved housing environment supports a more efficient production, both factors influencing your earnings positively. 

Floor suction underpins your environmental approval

The floor suction has several functions. It improves the air exchange in the pigsties, it ensures a more dust free environment and it collects ammonia and odour compounds directly at the source.

The barn can be equipped with an air cleaning unit which separates the collected ammonia and odor compounds. This way the housing concept supports your chances to achieve an environmental approval with more livestock units.

When building a new housing system for sows and piglets it is important to focus on animal welfare, high productivity, sectioned production, optimized logistics, energy efficient solutions and less environmental impact of the immediate environment.

The housing system contains improved insulation compared to what is seen in traditional housing systems and it is equipped with skylights to ensure an inflow of natural daylight, for the benefit of both the animals and the staff working in the barn.

New and patented air exchange system

The housing system is equipped with Agrifarm air exchange system, a centralized ventilation system where all of the air is sucked from the façade into the barn via air shafts while finally being led out through a central air corridor, which is placed above the central aisle in the housing system. All ventilators and ventilation dampers are placed in the central air corridor and can therefore be easily serviced and maintained. 

Better indoor housing climate and high energy efficiency

The improved insulation of the barn gives you advantages both summer and winter. During the winter you will use less energy for heating the barn. During the summer the barn stays cool longer and at the same time the air inlet placed in the façade ensures that the in – draft air is cooler than normal and the barn is cooled down more efficiently during the night.

With the housing system you will achieve a good indoor climate in the barn all year round with less ammonia, less odor nuisance and less dust for the benefit of both animals and staff.

Reduced time consumption in the barn

You will achieve a better logistic in your daily work routines. In the barn the distances are shortened by up to 30 % when moving pigs and during inspection tasks, so the time consumption is reduced quite significantly.

Your everyday life in the pig barn will be more comfortable with our patented, innovative ventilation system. Besides reduced nuisances from dust, you will also experience less noise since no ventilators are placed in the barn sections, instead they are placed in the central corridor.

We have developed the innovative air exchange system with the purpose of creating an optimal indoor climate in you pig barn.

 

The function of ventilation and heat

The ventilation system is an integrated part of the housing system. All ventilators and ventilation dampers are placed in the central air corridor and can thereby easily be serviced and maintained. If air cleaning is required the air cleaning unit can be integrated into the building without any larger constructional changes.

The inlet of air is below floor level through the façade of the barn where the air is sucked through a heating unit which heats the air. The heat unit is the barn’s heating system and at the same time the heated air prevents down draught of cold air. The air is sucked into the barn through air shafts, is then distributed in the barn sections and thereafter it is sucked out again through air channels below the solid floor. The exhaust air is collected in a central air corridor placed in the attic, where all the ventilators are placed. Ventilation dampers, which regulate the ventilation level in the individual barn sections, are also placed in the central air corridor.

Animal welfare in the housing system

With the new dairy cattle housing system the focus is on animal welfare. The housing system meets future Danish legal requirements when it comes to the amount of space for each individual animal and good laying comfort has a high priority to ensure animal welfare, for example when using sand in the cubicles. The air exchange system removes ammonia emissions from the barn, so that hoof and udder health is optimized.

Slatted floor together with the use of sand ensures improved slip resistance for the cows and damages to legs and hoofs are thereby avoided.

Good logistics is important both to you and the cows. When you are building a new housing system it is important to consider the daily logistics and include this in the final solution, since you will have to live with the chosen housing design for many years to come. With Agrifarm’s patented air exchange technology you have the opportunity to increase your production while at the same time improving environment, animal welfare and your earnings.

With the development of the air exchange technology called Environment Defender we received the EU Environmental Award on March 23rd 2012. Furthermore the technology was launched as a three star novelty at the agricultural fair Agromek in 2009, where we also received the Agromek Award for our technology.

 

New cutting - edge environmenta technology

 

We have developed and patented a completely new and cutting – edge environmental technology, Environment Defender, and in this system a controlled air stream is flowing above the manure across the slurry channels, thereby capturing ammonia emissions, odor gasses such as CO2, methane and laughing gas/nitrous oxide. The result is that there is less strain on the animals and the immediate environment compared to traditional housing systems.

 

With Environment Defender up to 75% of the ammonia and 50% of the odor compounds are collected. This means that the air quality in the barn is markedly better than in traditional housing systems, and this is achieved without otherwise interfering with the natural ventilation in the housing system.  

 

With the system you get:

This is how it works

With the air exchange system a controlled air stream is flowing above the manure across the slurry channels. The air stream captures the majority of the gaseous ammonia and odor compounds, which would otherwise have evaporated into the immediate environment and thereafter into the outside environment. The system can be retrofitted to any air cleaning system. The technology is suitable if you want to deliver your slurry to a biogas plant.
